Kurdish civil rights activist Kiumars Latifi has been taken back from Sanandaj Central Prison, northwestern Iran’s Kurdistan province, to the detention facility of the city’s intelligence ministry on 10 April.

Security forces arrested Latifi during a raid on his house in Sanandaj on 15 February and transferred him to the office of the Ministry of Intelligence in the city.

He was then transferred to the quarantine ward of Sanandaj Central Prison on 16 March with a temporary detention order.

While arresting him, security forces had beaten Latifi and taken him to an undisclosed location.

Simultaneously, security forces also searched the house of the activist’s sister, Arezou Latifi.

She fainted and was taken to the hospital due to the psychological pressures caused by the raid on her house.

Latifi is a civil rights activist and a former member of the Mowlavi Association in Sanandaj. He has been active in teaching the Kurdish language.

He had previously been arrested by security forces in 2019.
