Seven prisoners were executed in the central prisons of Orumiyeh and Salmas in West Azerbaijan Province in the early hours of 18 May, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.

The prisoners, Kaveh Bashengheh, Parvin Mousavi, Asghar Hajizadeh, Ramin Lavandpour, Parviz Ghassemi, Mansour Nasseri, and Yousef Saeidi, had all been sentenced to death on drug-related charges.

On 16 May, Hajizadeh and Bashengeh were transferred to solitary confinement in Salmas Prison, while the remaining five prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement in Orumiyeh Central Prison for execution.

Mousavi, 50, from Maragheh; Hajizadeh, 47, from Salmas; Nasseri, 45, from Bukan; Saeidi, 32, from Orumiyeh; Ghassemi, 35, from Orumiyeh; and Lavandpour, 27, from Orumiyeh, had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on separate drug-related charges.

Bashengheh, from Mahabad, was arrested about four years ago on drug-related charges and sentenced to death.

In 2022, Saleh Ghassemi, the father of Parviz Ghassemi, and Rashid Lavandpour, the brother of Ramin Lavandpour, were also executed on the same charges in Orumiyeh Central Prison and Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj.
