Somayyeh Akhtar-Shomar, a 36-year-old English language teacher from Marivan, Kurdistan Province, with 17 years of service, has been dismissed following a decision by the Primary Disciplinary Committee of Civil Servants in Kurdistan Province accusing her of anti-state activities.

The committee alleged that she had “supported and assisted opposition groups”, “published offensive content and spread false information against the Islamic Republic”, “actively participated in illegal teachers’ union channels”, “designed internal English exam questions that support insurgents”, and “supported opposition groups in the Kurdistan Region [of Iraq] on social media”.

The dismissal order, dated 17 March 2024, was recently delivered to Akhtar-Shomar in writing.
