Hassan Amini, brother of Mohammad Amini, a protester killed during the Women, Life, Freedom anti-government uprising in Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province, has been imprisoned in Sanandaj Central Prison to serve a six month and 15 day sentence.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that Amini was arrested after being summoned to the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Sanandaj on 21 July.

He was convicted on 5 July 2023 by Branch 101 of the Second Criminal Court of Bukan for “disturbing public order” and sentenced to six months and 15 days in prison and 40 lashes.

Amini was arrested on 9 June 2023 at the exit of Bukan, West Azerbaijan Province, when security forces detained a group of justice-seeking families from Sanandaj, Dehgolan and Divandarreh, Kurdistan Province, who were returning from the graves of protesters killed during the Women, Life, Freedom uprising in Saqqez and Bukan.

During his arrest, Amini was severely beaten and suffered serious injuries to his ears and chest.

He was released from Bukan Prison on 16 June 2023 on bail of one billion Iranian rials, which is nearly 2,000 USD.

Mohammad Amini, 33, was shot dead by military-security forces on 8 October 2022, during anti-government protests in the Karamouzi neighbourhood of Sanandaj.
