Danyal Kazeminezhad, a 30-year-old prisoner from Eslamabad-e Gharb in Kermanshah Province, was executed in Dizel Abad Prison in Kermanshah in the early hours of 21 July.

Kazeminezhad had been sentenced to death on charges of “premeditated murder” of a Basij member, Sajjad Amiri.

The execution was carried out without prior notice and without allowing Kazeminezhad a final meeting with his family, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.

His funeral took place later in the day in his home village of Lor in Eslamabad-e Gharb County, under pressure from the security services.

Kazeminezhad was arrested on 8 July 2023 by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Intelligence Organisation at the Qatur border in West Azerbaijan Province and sentenced to death by a court in Kermanshah.

In mid-June 2023, the public relations office of the IRGC’s Nabi Akram base in Kermanshah reported that Sajjad Amiri, a Basij member, had been killed on 11 June during a clash between IRGC officers and a fugitive convict in a suburb of the city.

Following this incident, state-affiliated websites claimed that Kazeminezhad was the killer and announced that he had been arrested on 9 July 2023 at the Qatur border while attempting to leave the country.
