Iranian security forces re-arrested civilian Keyvan Zand-Karimi in Sanandaj, Kurdistan province, on 7 May and took him to an undisclosed location, five days after his temporary release from the city prison.
The reason for the arrest and charges against the civilian remain unknown.
On 28 December 2022, security forces arrested Zand-Karimi at his workplace in Sanandaj and took him to the city’s Ministry of Intelligence detention centre.
He was transferred to Sanandaj Central Prison after two months of interrogation.
On 2 May, after 125 days in detention, Zand-Karimi was released on bail of 30 billion Iranian rials – nearly 60,000 USD.
During his detention, the civilian was denied access to a lawyer and family visits.
