Iran executed yesterday the death sentence of prisoner Esmaeil Kachalanlou in Maku, West Azerbaijan province, over murder-related charges.

Kachalanlou, who comes from the city of Showt in West Azerbaijan province, was arrested about three years ago on the charge of “premeditated murder”.

He was sentenced to death under the Islamic law of qisas or retribution-in-kind, which grants the right to retaliate to the victim’s family.

According to statistics compiled by the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN), Iran executed at least four Kurdish civilians at Karaj Central Penitentiary and Maku Prison in the past ten days over alleged charges related to drugs and murder.
