The Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh has sentenced a Kurdish civilian to 13 years and two months in prison.

Amanj Karvanchi, who comes from Sardasht in West Azerbaijan province, has faced charges of “acting against national security” through membership in religious groups and “propaganda against the state”, sources told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

The court hearing of the Kurdish civilian was held in mid-March in Branch 1 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh. He was notified of the sentence on 27 March in prison.
If Karvanchi’s sentence is upheld, 12 years and six months of it will be enforceable according to the Law on Consolidation of Sentences.

Karvanchi was arrested by security forces on 27 October in Sardasht. After a month of interrogation in the detention centre of the Intelligence Office of Orumiyeh, he was transferred to the central prison of the city.
