Poisoned woman prisoner Ameneh Ahmadi died on 26 February at the Juvenile Detention Centre of Sanandaj, Kurdistan province, after she was denied access to proper medical treatment in a hospital outside the prison.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that Ahmadi got poisoned for “unknown” reasons three days before her death.

She was transferred to the prison infirmary for treatment and was returned shortly after a simple examination.

Prison authorities threatened other prisoners not to inform anyone about Ahmadi’s death, KHRN has learned.

Ahmadi was arrested two years ago on drug-related charges.
