One prisoner has been fatally stabbed following a fight at Orumiyeh Central Prison in north-west Iran in recent days.
The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that the fight, believed to be related to the sale of drugs inside the prison, broke out between prisoners accused of “robbery” and resulted in the death of prisoner Erfan Babrizadeh.
The 26-year-old prisoner was serving a four-year sentence for “robbery” at the time of the incident.
A prisoner identified as Ahmad P. has been placed in solitary confinement and charged with the “premeditated murder” of Babrizadeh, KHRN has learned.
The case has been referred to the Orumiyeh court for further investigation.
