A Kurdish Kolbar died when returning from the border due to frostbite at the highlands of Kilah Shin in Shno (also known in Farsi as Oshnavieh) on Tuesday night, Nov 28, 2017.

“Abdullah (known as Hiwa) Mostafavi, 32 years old from Posh-Abad village of Oshnavieh, was lost on his way back from the border due to darkness and cold. His body was found by people in the village of Mirawi after several hours,” an informed source told Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

According to the source, “despite the snowfall at the highlands of Oshnavieh, kolbars are choosing mountainous and rough ways due to fear of being shot by the law enforcement forces despite knowing that they may lose their life due to frostbite and falling from the mountain”.

At least eight kolbars have died due to frostbite and avalanches fall in the border areas of Sardasht, Piranshahr and Khoy during this year.
